In Tales of Suspense #65, a distracted Tony forgets his attache case, and it falls into the hands of a common burglar. What causes our Golden Avenger to be so careless? If you've been following along, you can probably guess what has poor Tony so preoccupied.

Yep: lurve. Or rather, the lack of it. "Pepper can never love me. Therefore, I must throw myself into the ocean leave so she can be with Happy!"

You're getting ready to retrieve your stolen armor, so of course it's time to ponder the "hollow mockery" that is your life.

Like I said on Twitter, miss me with any claims that downplay Tony Stark's intelligence. The entire point of this particular issue is to emphasize, once again, that the armor itself doesn't make the hero. On the contrary, it's the brilliant and strategic mind inside the armor that gives Iron Man his true power. A random dude wearing Tony's most advanced tech cannot best Tony himself -- even if Tony is stuck using the inferior Mark 2. "I have the advantage of knowledge!"

Yes, a lot of early Iron Man stories end this way. Everything's turned out okay -- now let us stop to remember that this character is lonely and tragic! <3
