Wait just a minute: is Jim Zub suggesting here that Tony can in fact resist the temptation to abuse phenomenal cosmic power? Can't-Write-Well basically suggested the opposite last week! So who the hell actually has a correct read on Tony? Hint: it's Zub. In the absence of villainous mind control or technology-induced mental illness, Tony's a good guy -- not an egomaniac who lusts after power to better impose himself on people who didn't ask for his help. (The above, by the way, is from the conclusion of Avengers: Tech-On, which I will be buying in physical form when the trade is released.)

My favorite page in A:TO #3. Steve says here what Patsy should've said to Tony in his own book when he started to express his outsized guilt complex there. Tony doesn't hide things - or insist that his teammates wait for him before launching a major fight - because he's arrogant, actually. He does it because he's an over-protective papa bear who thinks he can (as he says here) prevent tragedy through the sheer force of his inventiveness and intellect. This is a kind of pride, but it's very different from the "I'm the best" showboating Cantwell seems to think is Tony's principal flaw.

I have to say, I'm rather fond of the Avengers: Tech-On miniseries. There's something about the art style that I find really appealing, and Zub keeps hammering on Tony's pride in a way that actually feels true to the character. So, uh -- be prepared for an A:TO capture dump over the next few days. ;)
