At the end of Iron Man #47, Tony pulls himself out of a depressive episode chiefly by reminding himself of his
duty to mankind. This backs up one thing I said to Marm in
our last stream: Tony's "messiah complex" (i.e., that thing modern writers like to call his "arrogance") comes from a profound sense of
responsibility and
guilt --
not an overly-inflated "ego" or a yearning for glory.
