Doom body-swaps with Tony to seize control of the latter's name and extensive resources:
Stripped of his wealth, Tony initially spirals into a booze-fueled depression:
But then, as you can see, he pulls himself together and works hard to earn credentials, build a business, and win the respect of the global community by doing good:
Meanwhile, Doom only becomes more megalomaniacal now that he has a bottomless purse. This prompts a final clash between Tony and Doom in which Tony rejects his old name because it's now tainted:
I really, really love the covert message of this comic. Essentially, this Michelinie/Layton story suggests that Doom will always be a power-hungry dictator no matter his circumstances -- and that Tony will always be a hero. As the kids say, this hard-core rejection of the "Dalmatians killed my mom so I just have to become a villain" style of excuse-making is pretty damned based.
